Megerdich Mikayelian holds a Master’s degree in Classical Guitar from the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory.

In 2022, he was honored by the World Guitar Organization and appointed its Official Ambassador in Armenia and Lebanon, under the auspices of UNESCO.

Mikayelian achieved international recognition by winning the Gold Medal at the Guitar Olympiad in Volos, Greece, in August 2023, also under UNESCO’s auspices. On February 15, 2024, His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of Cilicia, conferred upon him the St. Mesrop Mashdots Insignia at the Catholicosate of Cilicia in Antelias.

Currently, Mikayelian serves as a guitar professor at the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music and the Coordinator of the Classical Guitar Division at Parsegh Ganatchian College of Music. He is the founder, artistic director, and conductor of both the Hamazkayin Guitar Ensemble and the Davigh Orchestra. Additionally, he established the Ararad Quintet in 2019.

As an author, Mikayelian published “Armenian Liturgy and Armenian Songs for Guitar” in 2002, a collection of arrangements for classical guitar, through the Armenian Catholicosate of Cilicia.

Mikayelian has performed as a soloist across numerous countries, including Sweden, the United States, Canada (Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Cambridge), Lebanon, Armenia, the UAE, France, and Greece. He has also collaborated with ensembles such as the Hamazkayin Madrigal Ensemble, the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra, and Quatuor Rhapsodie in Montreal, Canada. He has performed in various duet combinations with guitar, violin, and flute.

In 2006, Mikayelian released his first classical guitar album in collaboration with Hamazkayin and Pomegranate Music. This was followed by Kaleidoscope, his second classical album, recorded in Athens, Greece, and released in 2008 by Pomegranate Music, USA. He also released a classical guitar DVD in 2010 through Hamazkayin.

Throughout his career, Mikayelian has received numerous accolades, including:

•Certificates of Appreciation from the Lebanese University School of Fine Arts for performances at the Open Door Festivals (2006, 2007).

•The Shield of Appreciation from the Armenian Evangelical College (2008).

•An Award of Appreciation from the House of Commons of Canada following a performance in Toronto (2011).

•Recognition from the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music for his outstanding achievements.

In 2013, under Mikayelian’s artistic direction, the Guitar Ensemble of Parsegh Ganatchian College won first prize in a televised competition. His students have consistently excelled under his mentorship, earning first prizes in various guitar competitions in Armenia.

Mikayelian’s transcriptions and arrangements have also gained prominence. In 2016, the Swedish classical guitar magazine Gitarr och Luta published his arrangement of the Armenian lullaby Oror, along with an article about his work. Japan’s renowned Gendai Guitar Magazine featured him and his Armenian musical arrangements in its June and December 2022 issues.

As a competition juror and educator, Mikayelian has contributed to the International Guitar Festival in Greece and the Renaissance Festival in Gyumri, Armenia, offering masterclasses and serving as a jury member.

In 2020, he released two CDs, Ararad and Oror, under the patronage of KOHAR. His leadership as the artistic director of the Hamazkayin Parsegh Ganatchian Music College Guitar Ensemble led to their first-place win in the string instruments ensemble category at the International Guitar Competition in Yerevan, Armenia, in April 2019. The ensemble was later invited to the KOHAR Music School for masterclass sessions.

Through his passion and dedication, Megerdich Mikayelian has cemented his place as a luminary in the classical guitar world, blending Armenian musical heritage with global artistry.
